3RX FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
Why should I choose the 3RX?
The 3RX is our flagship shooting glasses system, designed for shooters who want the greatest choice, adjustability and flexibility from their eyewear.
It combines Optical Class 1 spherical polycarbonate lenses with our secure magnetic quick-change system, extensive fit adjustment and pantoscopic lens tilt, allowing the glasses to be precisely positioned for your shooting style. Every lens is hard-coated, with selected colours also available with our Diamond REVO coatings and SPECTRA+ lens technology.
Choose from ready-made 2 or 4-lens kits, or build a custom kit from our full 3RX lens range. You can also add individual lenses later as your shooting, conditions or preferences change.
Built to be rugged, durable and comfortable for long days of shooting, the 3RX delivers the optical performance, protection and versatility expected from specialist shooting eyewear without the price associated with many premium systems.
What shooting disciplines are the 3RX suitable for?
The 3RX is designed for a wide range of shooting disciplines, including sporting clays, trap and DTL, skeet, game shooting, pistol and action shooting, rifle and target shooting, and airsoft.
Its wide spherical lens coverage, shooting-specific frame geometry, impact protection and extensive fit adjustment make it suitable for different shooting positions and disciplines, while the interchangeable lens system allows you to adapt your vision to changing light, target colours and backgrounds.
For archery, suitability depends more on individual fit and shooting style. The 3RX uses a nose pad system which may interfere with the sight picture or anchor position for some archers, so we recommend considering fit carefully if choosing the 3RX specifically for archery.
What is the fit like?
The 3RX has a medium-to-broad fit and offers extensive adjustment to help you achieve a secure, comfortable position for shooting.
The flexible metal-core temple tips can be shaped to suit your head, while the pivoting anti-slip nose pads adapt to different nose shapes. The pantoscopic tilt system also allows you to adjust the position and angle of the lens & frame, helping to fine-tune the fit and keep your vision clear when mounted to the gun.
The slim, low-profile temple arms are designed to sit comfortably beneath ear defenders, with optional anti-slip ear hooks providing additional security when needed.
Which 3RX kit should I choose?
The 3RX is available in ready-made 2- and 4-lens kits, or you can build a custom kit with 2, 3 or 4 lenses chosen from the full 3RX lens range.
2-lens kits are ideal if you want a simpler setup covering your most commonly encountered light conditions, while 4-lens kits give you greater flexibility across changing light, weather, target colours and backgrounds.
If you already know which lens colours work best for you, or want a particular combination, a custom kit lets you choose every lens yourself.
There isn’t one kit that’s right for every shooter. Consider where you shoot, the light conditions and backgrounds you regularly encounter, and how much flexibility you want from your eyewear. Our Lens Colour Simulator can also help you compare lens colours before choosing your kit.
How do I choose the right lens colours?
The best lens colours depend on the light conditions, backgrounds and targets you regularly shoot against. Lighter, high-transmission lenses are generally better suited to lower light, while darker lenses help manage brighter conditions. Different colours can also alter contrast and help targets stand out more clearly against particular backgrounds.
If you’re building a multi-lens kit, we recommend choosing lenses that cover different conditions rather than several very similar colours. Our Lens Colour Simulator can help you compare the effect of different lens colours before choosing your kit.
How does the 3RX lens changing system work?
The 3RX uses a magnetic quick-change system that allows lenses to be changed in seconds without tools. Each temple arm uses a precision-fitted clamp with strong neodymium magnets to securely lock onto the lens, while the smooth-action hinge allows the mechanism to open and close easily.
This makes it quick and simple to switch between lens colours as light conditions, backgrounds or targets change.
Can I use the 3RX with my prescription?
Yes. The 3RX is prescription compatible through our optional RX insert system. Rather than replacing the main shooting lens with a prescription lens, the RX insert sits securely behind it and is fitted with your prescription by your own optician.
Unlike conventional sports eyewear inserts, the 3RX RX insert is designed to sit high and wide for shooting, helping to provide a clear field of view when mounted to the gun. It transfers easily between 3RX lens colours, so you can change your shooting lens without needing multiple sets of prescription lenses.
Rubber guards help prevent the insert from contacting the main lens while also allowing airflow between the two lenses.
The RX insert is available separately.
For more details and guidance, please visit our RX Insert Prescription page.
What safety standards does the 3RX meet?
The 3RX complies with EN ISO 16321-1 and ANSI Z87.1, providing a high level of eye protection for demanding shooting environments.
EN ISO 16321-1 is the current European standard for protective eyewear and includes requirements for areas such as impact resistance, optical performance, field of view and protective coverage. ANSI Z87.1 is the recognised American standard for protective eyewear and includes requirements for impact performance.
Combined with impact-resistant polycarbonate lenses and wide wraparound coverage, the 3RX is designed to provide the protection, optical clarity and coverage required from specialist shooting eyewear.
What improvements does the 3RX offer over the 2RX?
The 3RX builds on everything we learned from the 2RX, with the complete system redesigned to deliver greater durability, more rugged construction, improved component quality and a more refined, secure fit and feel.
Key improvements include:
- Refined Magnetic Lens System – precision-fitted clamps, stronger neodymium magnets and an improved hinge mechanism provide smoother lens changes and more secure magnetic retention.
- Improved Build Quality – redesigned components, tighter tolerances and more robust construction improve strength, reliability and long-term durability throughout the system.
- Upgraded Pantoscopic Tilt – a stronger dual-position mechanism provides greater control over lens angle, with an optional locking screw to secure the adjustment.
- New Nose Pad System – pivot-mounted, anti-slip silicone pads improve comfort, stability, positioning and airflow.
- Slimmer Adjustable Temples – flexible metal-core tips provide a more tailored fit while the low-profile design sits comfortably beneath ear defenders.
- Redesigned RX Insert – positioned high and wide for shooting, with rubber guards to prevent contact with the main lens and improve airflow.
The result is a stronger, more refined and more durable evolution of the 2RX, while retaining the fast lens changes, extensive adjustment and customisation that made the original system so popular.
Are 3RX lenses and parts compatible with the 2RX?
3RX lenses and frame components are designed specifically for the 3RX system and should not be used as replacement parts for the 2RX.
Each X Sight eyewear model is designed and safety-tested as a complete system, with its lenses and frame components forming part of that specific design. For this reason, we do not recommend mixing lenses or frame components between the systems.
Will my 2RX prescription insert work with the 3RX?
No. The 3RX uses its own redesigned RX prescription insert, developed specifically for the 3RX lens and nose pad system. If you’re upgrading from the 2RX and require prescription correction, you’ll need the 3RX RX insert, which can be fitted with your prescription by your optician.

Great and extremely clear lenses. Very comfortable and stylish. Love the case and the ease of changing lenses. Everybody at my gun club and area shoots, have asked me about them. Would definitely recommend anyone try these. They won’t disappoint.
All perfect. Best decision ever. Fast delivery. I’m happy.
Tried on a mates and was shocked at the difference between his and the ones I had been using, so went ahead and invested in a 4 lens kit. Very impressed by the colours I have tired so far. I’d go so far to say I think it has improved my scores, just being able to focus better and cut out the background noise.
Lenses are very clear, and have some colors I’ve never see before that help a ton. Cover you entire field of view and are comfortable to wear.
Best I’ve ever used , the clarity of vision is excellent
